Nicole Maines – what an event!

Did you see Nicole and Wayne on Saturday March 4 at Arlington Town Hall? It was truly an inspiring and moving event. Thank you to everyone who came out on a cold Saturday afternoon to listen to Wayne and Nicole.

Nicole and Wayne are two of the family members at the center of our 2017 Arlington Reads Together Selection: “Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family” by Amy Ellis Nutt.

Wayne and Nicole were both so gracious, warm, and funny as they recounted their personal stories. We received wonderful feedback from people who attended the event. If you haven’t shared feedback, would you take five minutes to do so?

And don’t forget- Saturday kicked off an entire month of programs around transgender issues. We hope to see you at a book discussion or other events.

Here is what some attendees had to say:

“Nicole was an absolute inspiration as well as her father. I learned so much from their perspective.”

“Two brave, thoughtful, loving people inspired to make the world safe for transgender children and adults. It was very very wonderful !”

“I care deeply about diversity but have not personally been exposed much to the transgender community. It was a delight to read the book and hear from Nicole and Wayne in person.”

“What an amazing presentation by Wayne and Nicole Maines and what a privilege to hear them speak. I cannot thank the library staff enough for bringing such important people in the fight for equal rights to Arlington.”
