Fall book groups

Now that the weather is turning cooler and we’re all digging out our sweaters, it’s the most perfect time to curl up inside with a book. It’s also a great time to visit a library book group!

Here’s a rundown of library book groups and what we’re reading:

Not-So-Young Adult Book Group

noneThis is a group for adults, but we read books written for teens. If you don’t feel able to commit to the latest 700-page book that has been nominated for all the literary awards but still want to read something good, this might be the group for you. Right now we’re reading None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio and we’ll be discussing it next week on Tuesday Nov. 17 at 7pm. Copies are available at the front desk now, and because it’s a teen book you’ll fly through it in no time!

Teens Only LGBTQ Book Group

lumberjanesAs it’s name implies, this group is just for teens. The group reads books with an LGBTQ theme. All teens are welcome! The next meeting is Nov. 24 at 7pm. The group will be discussing the graphic novel Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson and Grace Ellis.

Guys Book Group

For some reason attendance at book groups tends to be predominantly female, so we’ve created a book group just for guys to get more male participation. This group is currently reading Pirate Hunters by Robert Kurson and will meet at the Fox Branch on December 3 at 7:30pm.

Robbins Library Book Group

lostinshangrilaOur largest and longest-running book group will next meet on Monday Dec. 7 at 7pm to discuss Lost In Shangri-La by Mitchell Zuckoff. This group reads a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction books.

Queer Book Group (QBG)

priceofsaltOur LGBTQ themed group for adults discusses a book every other month, and in has a social gathering on alternate months. The November get-together is a board game night on Nov. 18 at 7pm. The next book is The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith, and the discussion will be on Dec. 16 at 7pm.

We hold copies of the books for all our book groups at the front desk, so stop by and pick up whichever one strikes your fancy. There’s no commitment with any of these groups, so you can just attend on the months the book interests you, or go to a different group each month if you’d like. Information about all our book groups and upcoming titles are kept updated here – so check back often!
