If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, check out Sporcle. Sporcle quizzes offer “mentally stimulating diversions.” Literature is only one of the categories: you can also take quizzes in sports, history, music, language, TV, geography, science, and more.
You can play alone, or take the quiz at the same time as a friend to compare scores. Each quiz has a different amount of time, and you can start the timer whenever you’re ready. Some quizzes have ten questions, some have two hundred. Once you’ve played, you can see how you did compared to others who took the same quiz, and you can always try again.
Alleviate your boredom, or take a quick break from work or study…you might even learn something while you’re procrastinating.
For those who are up for a challenge, try this fiendishly tricky quiz on commonly misspelled words from the Language category. (In most quizzes, a wrong answer doesn’t end the quiz, but this one is zero-tolerance for errors. You can always play again until you get it right, though.)
Here are a few sample quizzes from different categories:
Geography: Can you identify all 50 states?
History: Can you name all the U.S. presidents in order?
Sports: Can you name all the NFL teams (by division)?
Music: Can you identify the Beatles song by its opening line?
Movies: Can you name all the Pixar movies?
TV: Can you identify a TV show by its opening credits?
Science: Can you identify an animal just by its feet?
