Celebrating Charles Dickens

February 7th marked the 200th birthday of one of the most influential writers in history. Inspired by Dickens 2012, the Robbins Library will also be honoring the great novelist and social commentator Charles Dickens. During the month of February, please join us for a series of films based on the works of Dickens.

Oliver!  (1968 musical)

Saturday February 11th at 12pm

This musical adaptation of Oliver Twist won an Academy Award for Best Picture. For a sneak peek, you can view the trailer here.

Great Expectations (1946)

Thursday February 16th at 6:30pm.

Nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture, this film won for Art Direction and Cinematography. Go here to see the trailer.

A Tale of Two Cities (1935)

Tuesday February 21st at 6:30pm

Nominated for 2 Oscars including Best Picture. Although it didn’t win, it remains the most highly-acclaimed movie version of the novel. The trailer is here.

All films will be shown in the Community Room on the lower level of the library. Please be sure to also stop by our Charles Dickens display table in the first floor lobby near the elevator!
